Craig M. Jackson,
Ph.D.
Scientific Programs
As Manager of Scientific Programs, Craig Jackson
provides a consultative resource to the Foundation for
all scientific programs. Trained in biochemistry with
expertise in proteomics, lipids, biological membranes,
and analytical instrumentation, he contributes broad
technical experience in biomedical research and capably
provides Hartwell funded investigators encouragement and
guidance while fostering innovative thinking. Craig left
a successful academic career as Professor of Biological
Chemistry at Washington University in St Louis for the
American Red Cross in Southeastern Michigan
(encompassing Detroit and Ann Arbor)., where he
established and for eight years and directed
successfully a research program in blood services.
Subsequently, he led a commercial medical device company
that produced reagents and in vitro diagnostic tests for
the hospital market. He also co-founded a medical device
company based upon technology he invented and has
consulted for the medical diagnostic industry. Dr.
Jackson is an internationally recognized scientist with
over 70 publications in rigorous peer-reviewed journals,
plus 30 chapters in textbooks and three patents. He has
contributed his energy to several National non-profit
organizations and local community service committees,
and has held active leadership positions in many
international scientific organizations. He completed
undergraduate studies at Washington State University in
Pullman and received his doctoral degree in Biochemistry
at University of Washington, followed by postdoctoral
training at Unilever Research in Port Sunlight, England.
Over the course of his career, he has taught and
mentored numerous medical and graduate students and
post-doctoral fellows who are now full professors in
major academic institutions or executives in the
biomedical industry. Many of those whom he has mentored
are internationally recognized for their career
achievements. Craig is married with one grandchild and
now lives “semi-retired” in San Diego.
